Welding consumables and MS steel for factories

GODOWN sources welding consumables and mild steel for fabrication shops, robot cells and maintenance teams across Delhi NCR: MS pipes and hollow sections, MS angles, channels, beams, flats and plates, alongside stick electrodes, MIG/MAG and flux-cored wires, TIG filler rods, torch spares, holders, cable and gas equipment. The steel for a platform and the electrodes to weld it can come on the same order.

Steel is ordered by section, size and grade, so an indent for 'MS angle' without the leg sizes and thickness invites the wrong quote. Welding consumables are ordered by classification, so an electrode indent needs E6013 or E7018, not just '3.15 mm rods'. Robot-cell wire and contact tips are worth holding at a reorder level, so the line never waits on an order.

GODOWN covers welding and steel along with every other category your plant buys: competitive quotes, one PO, delivery tracked to your gate with a GST tax invoice, and urgent requirements prioritised when a cell is down.

  • MS angles

Equal and unequal angles to IS 2062, specified by leg sizes and thickness, such as 50 × 50 × 6 mm, for frames, brackets, supports and racks.

  • Channels, beams and flats

ISMC channels, ISMB beams, flats and round bars to IS 2062 for machine bases, platforms, supports and guards.

  • MS plates and sheets

Hot-rolled plates and HR or CR sheets by thickness, cut to size or in standard sheets, for base plates, gussets, covers and guards.

  • Mild steel stick electrodes

Rutile E6013 for general fabrication in all positions, and low-hydrogen E7018 for structural, pressure and crack-sensitive joints. Common sizes in India are 2.5, 3.15, 4.0 and 5.0 mm.

  • Stainless and special electrodes

E308L, E316L and E309L for stainless steel and for stainless-to-mild-steel joints, plus cast iron and hardfacing electrodes for repair work.

  • MIG/MAG and flux-cored wires

Copper-coated ER70S-6 solid wire in 0.8, 1.0 and 1.2 mm on 15 kg spools or in drums for robot cells, and flux-cored wires for thicker sections and positional work.

  • TIG filler rods and torch spares

Filler rods such as ER70S-2 and ER308L, tungsten electrodes, and contact tips, nozzles, diffusers and liners for MIG torches.

  • Holders, cable and gas equipment

Electrode holders, earth clamps, welding cable sized in sq mm, regulators and flowmeters for CO2 and argon, and gas cutting sets. Helmets and gloves are on the safety and PPE page.

Spec checklist

What to put on a welding & steel indent

Vendors quote the right part first time when the indent carries these. Missing details mean a round of calls before anyone can quote.

  • Steel section and size: pipe nominal bore and class (such as 50 NB medium, IS 1239), angle legs and thickness (such as 50 × 50 × 6 mm), channel or beam size (such as ISMC 100), or plate thickness.
  • Steel grade and length: the grade, usually IS 2062 E250 for structural work, and standard mill lengths or cut lengths.
  • Quantity and pricing basis: pieces, metres or tonnes. Steel is usually priced per kg, so ask whether the quote is on actual or theoretical weight, and whether a mill test certificate is included.
  • Process and base metal: stick, MIG/MAG, flux-cored or TIG, and the material and thickness being welded, such as IS 2062 mild steel or SS316.
  • Consumable classification: the AWS or IS classification of the electrode or wire (such as E7018, ER70S-6 or ER308L), as your welding procedure specification states it.
  • Size and pack: electrode diameter and packet weight; wire diameter, spool weight or drum size.
  • Torch spares: torch make, model and amperage; contact tip thread, length and bore to suit the wire; nozzle bore; liner length.
  • Brand or equivalent: if your customer or procedure ties the steel or the consumable to a brand, name it; otherwise allow equivalents of the same grade or classification.

Questions

Buying welding & steel: common questions

What is the difference between light, medium and heavy MS pipes?

The classes under IS 1239 differ in wall thickness for the same nominal bore. Light class has the thinnest wall and suits low-pressure use; medium is the usual choice for water and compressed-air lines; heavy has the thickest wall for higher pressure and structural work. They are commonly identified by colour bands: yellow for light, blue for medium and red for heavy. Specify the class on the indent, not just the size.

How is MS steel priced, per kg or per piece?

Structural steel such as angles, channels, beams and plates is usually priced per kg or per tonne, while pipes may be quoted per metre or per piece. Ask whether a per-kg quote uses the actual weighed weight or the theoretical weight from the section tables, because the two can differ. Ask for a mill test certificate if your drawing or customer needs the grade proven.

What is the difference between E6013 and E7018 electrodes?

E6013 is a rutile electrode: easy to strike, with a smooth arc, usable in all positions, and fine for general mild-steel fabrication. E7018 is a low-hydrogen electrode with higher strength and toughness, used for structural, pressure and crack-sensitive joints. E7018 picks up moisture from the air, so it must be stored dry and rebaked to the maker's instructions once the pack is open. Use what your welding procedure specifies.

Which contact tip do I need for MIG welding?

Match three things: the wire, the torch and the duty. The bore must suit the wire diameter, so 1.2 mm wire takes a 1.2 mm tip. The thread and length must fit your torch's gas diffuser, typically M6 or M8, so give the torch make and model. For high-current or robotic welding, copper-chromium-zirconium tips last longer than plain copper ones. Indent tips by the box, as they wear quickly.
